    The generations of Honda Civics tend to alternate between revolution and evolution. The outgoing 10th-generation car has made great strides in styling and performance, so it stands to reason that its successor presents a more conservative redesign. Considering the more mature appearance of the new 11th-gen 2022 Civic, we think that’s a good thing. The new model features a cleaner styling, transfer engines, and plenty of new features and upgrades that should lead to a useful improvement.

    Honda lengthened the Civic sedan’s wheelbase by 1.4 inches and widened the rear track by 0.5 inches. The tortured lines and odd angles of the front are gone, replaced with a more fluid design that takes its front and rear designs from the larger Accord sedan. A hatchback model will come later, along with high-performance Si and Type R variants that will feature more zesty turbo engines and manual transmissions.     More commonly, the 2022 Civic sedan’s powertrain lineup remains similar. A 2.0-liter naturally aspirated inline-four with power is standard on the LX and Sport models, and a turbocharged 1.5-liter inline-four is again included on the EX and Touring trims. A manual transmission will unfortunately only be relegated to eventual Si and Type Rs, as all non-performing Civics will have a continuously variable automatic transmission for the time being. The base 2.0-liter has the same 158 horsepower and 138 pound-feet of torque, but benefits from a new engine start-stop system, while the 1.5-liter engine gets an increase of 6. horsepower and 15 pound-feet for a total of 180 horsepower and 177 pound-feet. EPA fuel consumption estimates are up 1 to 2 mpg depending on configuration.

    The interior of the new Civic appears to be a significant advancement, with attractive design, nicer materials, and better tech offerings. A 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system comes standard and includes volume and adjustment buttons and plenty of hard buttons. The Touring model has a larger 9.0-inch touchscreen as well as a 10.2-inch digital gauge cluster. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard equipment, and the larger screen allows for wireless mirroring capabilities. An upgraded Bose audio system is also included on the Civic Touring.

    A full range of driver assistance features are standard across the board, and rear side airbags are included for the first time on a Civic. Honda has yet to detail the standard and optional equipment for the Civic, but we do know the lineup includes the LX, Sport, EX and Touring trim levels. The LX has 16 inch wheels with hubcaps, the Sport has 18 inch black wheels, the EX has 17 inch wheels with black inserts and the Touring has 18 inch wheels with gray inserts. Eight exterior colors will be available, including three new: Meteorite Gray Metallic, Sonic Gray Pearl and Morning Mist Blue.

    We expect prices to increase slightly with the 2022 Civic’s more premium handling, so look for the LX to start around $ 23,000 and the Touring to hit the $ 30,000 mark. Honda says the new Civic will arrive at U.S. dealerships this summer.
